Congratulations to Bobby Tzepos and Easwer Raman on their recent publication in Electroanalysis! A number of students worked on this project at Emmanuel College, including Marianna Barnhart and Katarina Kozicki, in addition to all the hard work that Bobby and Easwer put in. This project originated with Dr. Gerdon, Dr. Lauren Toote, and Dr. David Wright at Vanderbilt University and we had some great help from Dr. David Cliffel and Dr. Evan Gizzie. What a great team project! The electrochemistry is the highlight of this work along with the nanoparticle synthesis and conjugation strategies. Julia is so excited to be back in the lab for the summer! It is her first time doing summer research on campus. Julia has started running collagen and mineralization QCM experiments with the two sets of instruments that are in the lab. She is planning on continuing these experiments, and hopefully start incorporating new mineralization solutions. She is also planning on ordering and working with DNA origami in the future! She is excited to learn as much as she can from this...

Rylie is very excited to be back in the lab full-time this summer! Rylie has begun working on the calcium carbonate project for GRAB Lab and has been spending her time running affinity experiments. For these experiments, Rylie is becoming best friends with our spectrophotometer as she measures absorbance for each sample. She is happy to be learning how to use many instruments in the lab and analyze all the data she has collected from them. Rylie is excited to see what she and the other student researchers will accomplish this...

Amanda is so excited to be back in the lab for summer research! After some lab clean-up and literature research, Amanda was able to start running more affinity experiments with DNA and collagen hydrogels. She has also done some planning for the rest of the summer. She has lots of experiments lined up, which means their will be a lot of data to analyze! So far, Amanda is having a great time working with the other summer researchers and she can’t wait to share the results of the experiments she has...

It is amazing to see students and faculty back to work in summer research! The distractions of a full set of courses during the semester are gone and now is the time for students to immerse themselves in research projects. Students can eat, sleep, drink, and dream research! But, then take a nice walk around the Fens to clear your head, reflect on the results, and try it again. We’re excited for all that Amanda, Rylie, Julia, Luz, and Grace will get to do this summer. Stay tuned for updates on our NSF-funded biomineralization work and for info on a new course development projects for forensics using GC-MS and SPME. Finally, how else to start the summer than with Tasty Burger take-out on the quad?! The tater tots were...
